A robot powered by artificial intelligence builds furniture based on verbal instructions.
Researchers at MIT have built a robot that can construct furniture and other large objects using reusable blocks. In doing so, it is guided only by voice commands. The robot's operation is based on an advanced system that translates speech into models of objects. The voice command, uttered by the user, is first transcribed into text format, which is processed by the artificial intelligence model in the next phase. The artificial intelligence, trained on an extensive database of images from the Internet, generates a three-dimensional model of the desired object. Then, a computer-aided design program converts this model into a set of coordinates for the appropriate placement of modular building blocks (called voxels). These are assembled by the robotic arm, which thereby carries out the user's command.During the demonstrations, the robot succeeded in fabricating a range of items, from functional furniture, such as chairs and shelves, to more abstract things, such as dog-shaped and T-shaped figures. The research team has also documented that the robot can create a simple chair in less than five minutes, highlighting the speed and efficiency of the new technology. Moreover, the robot is equipped with a self-correcting mechanism that eliminates potential errors that arise during the process. The end effector of the robotic arm uses indexers that guide precise alignment. They act as passive self-correcting mechanisms to ensure accurate and safe placement of each part. Although the current system uses a single type of voxel, the team sees the potential to improve the mechanical properties of items by incorporating voxels made of different materials, such as wood and metal.
Intelligent DVB-T2 COMBO SMART DIPOL antennas.
Selecting the right antenna is a key issue in any TV system. When looking for a suitable model, the following factors should be taken into account – gain, directivity, mounting location, built-in signal amplifier and the band for which the antenna is tuned. Of these four factors, the primary and most important parameter in selecting a DVB-T2 antenna is the antenna gain and TV band. Energy gain is a measurable parameter and is most often given in dBi units. In simple terms, it means how much "better" a given antenna is in relation to a theoretical isotropic antenna – an omnidirectional, lossless one having zero physical dimensions. The greater the gain, the better. Some antennas have amplifiers in the antenna box, which, when supplied with voltage (usually 12 VDC), further increases the received signal level. However, this should not be confused with the nominal gain of the antenna itself. These antennas have a number of advantages, with the versatility being the most important. The new COMBO TV antennas are designed to receive DVB-T2 digital terrestrial TV in the VHF (174-230 MHz) and UHF (470-694 MHz) bands. The bypass and amplifier in the antenna box makes it possible to work in two modes:
- passive – the antenna is based on its nominal gain:
- SMART HORIZON COMBO: 5.7 dBi for the VHF band and 12.5 dBi for the UHF band
- SMART CITY COMBO: 4.9 dBi for the VHF band and 12 dBi for the UHF band
- active – when 12 VDC is applied through the coaxial cable (from a power supply /not included/, multiswitch, amplifier, etc.) the signal is amplified by an additional 20 dB in both bands
It should be noted here that in the case of a classic passive antenna, in order to use an amplifier you need to remove the balun and install a amplifier. In the SMART antenna, it is enough to connect a 12 VDC power supply with a separator.
In the following issues of the Weekly Review we will write about other advantages of SMART antennas.
+Adding an IP speaker to a Hikvision IP DVR.
Hikvision IP DVRs of the NXI-K and NXI-I series have the ability to directly add 4 or 8 Hikvision IP speakers respectively. It is possible to associate some alarm events, such as a virtual line or an intrusion area, with any message implemented in the speaker or uploaded by the user. An example of this would be a zone where no one should appear from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am. If a person appears in this zone, a message may be triggered asking the user to “leave the zone, otherwise security will be called.” To add a speaker to an NXI-I(E) series DVR, such as the DS-7608NXI-I2/S(E), log in to the DVR and go to Device Access → Device → Audio device and select Add to device list, for automatic addition, or tab ///Add// for manual completion of all parameters.View of the window for adding IP speaker in DS-7608NXI-I2/S(E) DVR through the browser
How to terminate fibre optic cables from flats in a teletechnical room?
The most common way to terminate fiber optic cabling converging from apartments in a telecommunications room is to use RACK-mounted switches. These distribution frames are installed together with panels designed for copper cabling (twisted pair and coaxial cables). If the investor wishes the fiber infrastructure to be separated from the copper cabling, it is possible to use a separate RACK cabinet or to use a metal distribution box. Such boxes allow, depending on the version, to terminate from 12 to 144 fibers, which results in 6 to 72 apartments. These boxes have space to accommodate an optical splitter in case the optical infrastructure is connected to a single operator. Otherwise, splitters should be installed in dedicated operator boxes.

For small buildings, where the number of apartments does not exceed 18, it is possible to use a well-thought-out, inexpensive, solidly constructed plastic box GXF6-15N5S L54036. The box is equipped with 3 input/output ports of large size – 2 x dia. 25 mm, 1 x 43 x 13 mm. Additionally, there is space for the installation of up to 4 1/8 mini optical splitters.
Hikvision DS-2CD2143G2-LI IP Dome Camera (4 MP, 2.8 mm, 0.005 lx, hybr. illumination up to 30 m, AcuSense) The K00905 is a Hikvision IP dome camera equipped with hybrid illuminator and AcuSense technology. The AcuSense technology increases the effectiveness of the surveillance system by eliminating false and nuisance alarms through human/vehicle object filtering. The use of IR and LED illuminators in a single camera allows it to operate in several modes – classic IR, white LED light and smart mode, in which when an object such as a person or vehicle is detected, LED illumination is switched on, allowing observation in color mode. After the object disappears, the camera switches back to IR mode. | ||
